By 1957, Ducati was focused on the sports bike sector. The 125 Sport did not just possess the dimensions of a real motorcycle, but also the performance.
Designed by Fabio Taglioni on his arrival at Ducati, the 125 Sport featured technical solutions already seen on the Gran Sport Marianna, which had triumphed on numerous occasions in long-distance races in the mid-fifties. One of these innovations was the engine with bevel gear timing, a solution that made its debut in the Motogiro d’Italia.
In that same race, both the 125 Sport and the 100 – which was achieved by slightly reducing the displacement - experienced similar success. The 125 Sport was one of the first road bikes to adopt technical solutions that featured on the race machines.
Scoring such excellent results in this popular race inevitably translated into significant commercial success.
