Desmosedici GP 03

Following a regulatory change that gave rise to the new MotoGP category in 2002, Ducati announced its return to the top class of the World Championship after thirty years of absence.

Designed by Filippo Preziosi and entrusted to Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss, the Desmos edici GP03 proved to be an extremely powerful bike thanks to its four-stroke engine with liquid cooling and desmodromic timing system.

Capirossi was immediately competitive and qualified on the front row. He took his bike with number 65 to the podium at the first race of the season in Japan, at Suzuka circuit.

In the sixth race of 2003, at Catalunya circuit, Loris crossed the finish line before everybody else and marked the first victory of the Desmosedici. Also thanks to his team mate Bayliss, Ducati took an honourable second place in the Manufacturers' ranking in its first MotoGP season.
