Desmosedici GP16

Two innovative aerodynamic appendages are added to the motorbike on either side of the fairing, an innovation that marks the future of racing motorbikes.

The Desmosedici GP16, which for the second consecutive season was entrusted to the all-Italian pairing of Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone, was unveiled in February 2016. Ducati Corse boss Gigi Dall'Igna called it an "evolution" of previous bikes, but it soon proved to be the fastest bike on the straights with its extreme power.

The fins remained from the previous year, although now colored to match the predominantly white and red Desmosedici, but these aerodynamic appendages were beginning to have a bursting effect on the bike's overall performance. Dall'Igna had clearly opened up a new technical development in MotoGP, compared to which all the other manufacturers were catching up, and marking a major turning point in the history of motorcycle racing.

In the tenth race of the season in Austria, Ducati dominated all sessions and the race, but the rider who took the first win for Ducati since Casey Stoner won for the team in the 2010 Australian Grand Prix was Iannone, who passed his teammate on the penultimate corner of the last lap to take his first MotoGP victory.
