Discover moreAustralian Troy Corser has spent five years of increasing success with the Ducati official teams in the World Superbike Championship, the now 52-year-old from Wollongong (New South Wales) won the first of his two Rider's WSBK in 1995 on the Ducati 955.
Troy burst onto the scene in the early 1990s, winning the Australian Superbike Championship in 1993 and then conquering the United States the following year on a Ducati Fast by Ferracci, when he became the first non-American to win the coveted title. He complemented this participation with a few appearances in world rounds, finishing 11th overall, which is where he originated the number 11 that he sported on his fairings for many years.
These results earned him a full-time position in World Superbike with the Promotor Racing Power Horse Ducati team managed by Davide Tardozzi, finishing second in 1995 and winning the title in 1996, thus becoming the youngest ever winner of the championship for the production derivatives.
After an unsuccessful year in the top 500cc GP category in 1997, Corser then returned to WSBK and also to Ducati for the next two years, first with Ducati Racing ADVF and then Ducati Performance.
In 1998 he came very close to his second title with Ducati, leading the standings until the last round, but he fell in a crash in the warm-up after taking pole position and had to skip the race. In 1999, he joined Carl Fogarty in Tardozzi's super-team, but the title went to "Foggy" with Corser again finishing third.
The 1999 season was Corser's last on a Ducati motorcycle, but the Australian went on to have a successful WSBK career with other manufacturers and won his second title in 2005.
