The view from above highlights its sinewy shapes. The seat, narrow in the arch, feeds into the powerful tank and extends, towards the rear, to meet with the volume of the sporty side fairings.
The full LED headlight maintains the iconic Monster circular shape and is brought even more up to date with the bright signature of the DRL. The structure of the headlight evolves too, with a transparent cover that fully absorbs the optics and electronics. Technical elements such as the central unit and heat sink are fully visible and make for a modern, technological look.
The tank is the undisputed star of the bike. The muscular curved back for which the Monster stands out, sculpted by the unmistakable deep hollows for the rider’s knees, evolves in terms of its powerful ‘shoulders’ that extend towards the front wheel and loom over the integrated dynamic direction indicators.
The short tail, clean but also sinewy and sculpted, comprises a visible rear subframe, which serves both a structural and aesthetic function, and two painted side panels inspired by the Panigale V4.
The Monster Plus comes with the addition of the fairing and passenger seat cover.
The Testastretta 11° is a liquid-cooled, 4-valve twin-cylinder with desmodromic timing system delivering an output of 111 horsepower.
11° like the valve overlap value, which primarily influences the dimensions of the cylinder head, hence the name Testastretta (which translates into Narrow Head).
However, this is an essential parameter for smoothness of operation, which is the main feature of this engine.
The valve overlap, in fact, defines the crankshaft rotation interval in which the simultaneous opening of the intake and exhaust valves takes place. The valve overlap has been configured at 11° for this engine in order to keep the exchange of fresh heat to the exhaust and combustion gases to the combustion chamber as low as possible, with the aim of achieving great smoothness of operation together with low fuel consumption and emissions.
It delivers a maximum output of 111 Hp (81.6 kW) at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 9.5 kgm (93 Nm) at 6,500 rpm. A result that highlights a more robust power delivery, and an engine with a faster response. In short, enhanced riding pleasure.
The 8-plate clutch is extremely compact and lightweight, while the selector drum works on bearings to minimise friction and improve precision and smoothness when shifting.
Using the Ride by Wire system allows choosing among different riding modes to adapt the engine according to taste or need.
The Ducati Quick Shifter is equipped as standard and provides shift assistance both when shifting up and down. It is the perfect companion for days of genuine sport riding, but also a boon when city riding as it allows the rider to enjoy the ride without continually operating the clutch.
The Testastretta 11° and Testastretta DVT are exceptionally reliable and low-maintenance as the main maintenance intervals are less frequent. The oil change coupons are scheduled every 15,000 km, while the valve clearance check and adjustment is scheduled every 30,000 km.
The load-bearing engine is linked to a front frame deriving from that of the Panigale V4. Created in aluminium, the frame is 4.5 kg lighter than the trellis frame of the Monster 821, for a 60% reduction that contributes to the bike’s overall lightness.
The wet anti-patter clutch equipping the new Monster can guarantee smooth feedback thanks to its particular self-servo system. The new hydraulic control makes it extremely “light” to activate (20% less effort compared to the Monster 821) and perfect modulated to suit riders of all levels.
The seat height of the new Monster is 820 mm. This, combined with the narrow sides of the bike, allows the rider to easily reach the ground with their feet. A seat that reduces this height to 800 mm, while still maintaining good padding, is available as an accessory. A suspension kit is also available for those who wish to lower the vehicle, further reducing the seat height to 775 mm.
Created with modern GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) technology, the rear subframe loses 1.9 kg.
To offer the best possible braking, while maintaining good modulability and light, precise control. This was the goal of the Ducati engineers as they worked with Brembo to develop a specific system that sees the M4-32 radial monobloc calipers act on a pair of 320 mm discs by way of sintered pads, to ensure sports performance in wet and dry conditions.
The wheels also contribute to the lightness of the new Monster. Created in lightweight alloy, they measure 3.50x17” and 5.50x17” and mount Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres, a 120/70 front and 180/55 rear, showcasing that Monster sports attitude in wet and dry conditions.
The new frame but also the careful positioning of components such as the radiator ensure significant improvement with respect to the previous generation of Monster. The steering angle rises to 36°, a good 7° more than before. As a result, the Monster is more agile than ever before in traffic, while making a U-turn is easier and more intuitive.
Like all latest generation Ducati bikes, the Monster exploits Ride-by-Wire technology and the dynamic control systems to create the Riding Modes, which modify the character of the motorcycle, adapting it to the road conditions and/or the rider’s level of ability.
Monster has three Power Mode and three Riding Mode: Sport, Touring and Urban.
Riding Mode Sport
Dedicated torque curve in first gear and full torque curve in other gears.
Riding Mode Touring
Dedicated torque curves in first and second and full torque curve in other gears.
Riding Mode Urban
Dedicated torque curves in first and second and limited torque curve (max. power 75 hp) in other gears.
The Monster is equipped with a Launch Control system that allows for extremely effective starts. Once activated, the system autonomously manages the engine revs (irrespective of the throttle) so that the rider need only manage the clutch when moving off. A “drag race mode” that ensures the best possible acceleration.
Wheelie Control allows the motorcycle to accelerate to the max while eliminating, or limiting, any front wheel lift. This heightens riding safety but also ensures the best possible acceleration performance. Wheelie Control can be adjusted independently from other controls.
Available as standard on the new Monster the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down, a race-derived electronic system, lets the rider shift gear without using the clutch. This system not only boosts the enjoyment of sports riding but also lends a welcome hand in city traffic or on winding roads requiring frequent gear changes.
The Monster instrument panel features a 4.3” colour TFT display and offer useful on-board information. In the centre of the screen, the rev counter and currently selected gear are on prominent display, along with data such as air temperature and fuel level.
The dashboard is also predisposed to display information from the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), which allows a smartphone to be connected to the motorcycle via Bluetooth module (available as an accessory). Functions are managed via the buttons positioned on the handlebar, while the display shows the “music player” controls, headset connection status icons, and both incoming call and message alert icons.
With its modern lines and technological look, the full LED headlight is equipped with the daytime running light system that guarantees excellent visibility, both close-up and from afar. The dynamic LED indicators are always clearly visible and come complete with auto-off function.
