Stage 3 Update—NORRA Mexican 1000: Alexander Smith takes a Special Stage win on Day 3. Smith and Sutherland equal on Special Stage wins, with two each.

Alexander Smith (#52) aboard the Ducati DesertX Rally continues to display a leading pace at the NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally, maintaining second position throughout Stage 3. Yesterday,Smith battled across the dunes between Guerrero Negro to San Ignacio, Mexico, where he quickly closed the three-minute gap to catch opening rider Sutherland after only sixteen miles.
 

He currently sits 5 minutes and 31 seconds behind first place in the Pro Rally Class. Both riders spent the day close to each other, taking advantage of mistakes or favored terrain.
 

Smith finished the Special Stage 1 minute and 56 seconds faster to secure his second stage win, leaving both protagonists with two stage wins each.
 

Today marks the start of a two-stage marathon in the NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally. Stage 4 starts on Wednesday, May 1st, at 11:30 am, stretching from San Ignacio to San Juanico, Mexico. Marathon stages prohibit teams from working on bikes overnight between stages. The marathon continues Thursday, May 2nd, with Stage 5 covering the distance from San Juanico to La Paz, Mexico.
