HomeOne year after Ducati's great season in MotoGP, the 1098 F08 lined up at the start of the Superbike World Championship.
The 2008 season was the first one for this Ducati and the last one for Troy Bayliss. Troy was thirty-nine years old, but still capable of competing at the highest level; and that's exactly what he did together with the factory team, taking Ducati back to the top of the Superbike World Championship after its success in MotoGP.
Eleven victories allowed him to conquer the Riders’ title with a wide margin over his closest rivals.
Troy Bayliss achieved an unprecedented feat of winning three titles with three different generations of bikes: the 996 R, the 999 and the 1098; and the way he dominated his final season was the confirmation of how the Australian rider had become the protagonist of an extraordinary career, with fifty-two overall victories.
To celebrate his third title, Troy decided to teach the world a little maths by adding a plus sign between the 2 and 1 of his race number, which therefore became 2 + 1, equal to "three times world champion". And to top it off, he put his signature on the tank of the bike after the last race.
