Skye Adams on the podium and wins Ladies Trophy at Round 1 of the 2025 ACU Flat Track British Championship

Max Vanoni reports back from the very first round of the ACU Flat Track British Championship.

Sunday 30th March saw the Devitt X Vanoni Team head to Scunthorpe for the first round of the newly established ACU Flat Track British Championship.

The ACU decision to get involved in Flat Track is fundamental for the growth of the sport and the development of talents, with the top riders going on to represent the UK next year in the 2026 FIM World Championship.

With that in mind we had to start in the best possible way, in what was widely considered the most challenging track of the season. Scunthorpe is a fast speedway track, and a staple of UK oval winter racing. But circuits like this with hard surfaces and little dirt on top can be a treacherous places.

The Twin class was clearly a matter between three riders: Hooligans Champion Skye Adams (Devitt X Vanoni Team - Ducati Scrambler), 2024 Pro Champion Jack Bell (Devitt X Vanoni Team - Yamaha) and current Twin Class Champion Gary Birtwistle (Royal Enfield).

Such a lineup guarantees some exciting racing and close action, especially as all three riders are well versed in handling these bikes.

Bell finished the three heats with three wins, whilst Adams battled to two thirds and a second place, with Birtwistle getting a pair of second places and a DNS.

In the final, and on a dry surface that doesn’t really help these bikes’ characteristics, Bell took the chequered flag, followed by Birtwistle on his factory twin. Adams claimed the final podium position on the Devitt X Vanoni Team Ducati Scrambler 1100, crossing the line as first of the road-spec bikes.

Skye showed an extremely good pace in all conditions on her first outing on the new-to-her 1100, with results looking to improve as the bike is further developed.

With three wins in the heats, and another win in the final, Skye also took home the Ladies Trophy, making it a good haul of silverware for the Devitt X Vanoni Team in the first real racing outing of the 2025 season.

The highly competitive classes are a good omen for the ACU Championship, and the team are looking forward to the rest of the season. Thanks goes out to the organisers and everyone involved in getting this off the ground.

Skye Adams (Devitt X Vanoni Team #76)
"It is great to be involved in the first ACU championship for Flat Track, racing the Ducati Scrambler 1100 in the Twins class and the Ladies and Pro class. We’re making progress on the new bike and just working hard to find some more in the next round. Thanks to Devitt Insurance, Ducati, and all the sponsors for the support, and to Max for all the effort!"
