Podium finish for James Hillier onboard the Oxford Products Ducati at the RST Superbike Classic TT race

Road racer James Hillier claimed his first Classic TT podium since 2014 after finishing 3rd in the RST Superbike Classic TT race on Monday.

Hillier was racing the Oxford Racing Ducati 851, with his podium finish making up for previous race retirements at the famous circuit.

David Johnson took his first Classic TT win in the race, with Hillier beaten to 2nd position by Derek Shields and a time difference of just 1.5 seconds.

Hillier completed the 4-lap race with a total time of 1:14:10.235, representing an average speed of 122:086mph.

“I was shocked really to hear the time there on the last lap. I just had to dug deep. We didn’t plan any pit boards, but they were popping up. I got Ballacraine and it said P4, minus 5 or something and I thought ‘I’ve got to try’. I was really getting stuck in, but it’s paid off. The team deserved it. Three years we haven’t had a finish so to then get our finish and pull into the winner’s enclosure is always good.”
