HomeFor once the sun shone at Ducati UK’s track day at Donington Park, a nice change for the UK Ducatisti who have often in the past had to endure the UK’s unpredictable weather.
This year the sun shone brightly and uninterrupted, the perfect weather for track riding. As usual there was a wide of variety of Ducati’s taking to the track, from Superleggera and Panigale V4 R’s to Scramblers and Diavels.
Guests at the track day were joined by representatives from Ducati’s three British Superbike teams including Scott Redding (Be Wiser Ducati), Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Ducati) and Sylvain Barrier (Brixx Ducati). Redding used the opportunity to familiarise himself with the Donington track which he had not ridden since his 125cc days in MotoGP.. Redding rode both a V4 and V4 S Panigale throughout the day.
‘I came down because the last time I rode here was 10 years ago and I thought I would have a ride around and I can tell you it is very different going from a 125 to a 1000cc, the grandstands have changed, the curbs and the circuit seems a lot smaller. It is just so that I can get my eye in and when the race weekend comes, I have been and seen it first.’
All three riders mixed with guests throughout the day and were the centre of attention during a Q&A at the lunch break.
Scott reflected on the differences between MotoGP and British Superbikes and the challenges of UK circuits, Tommy on leading the championship and his recent experience of a World Superbike ride at Imola. Sylvain sang the praises of the Panigale V4 S and how close it was to the race bike in performance.
A great day was had by all and no doubt many will also be attending the next Ducati UK track day that takes place on the 31st July at Silverstone circuit
