The holiday season is upon us, so what better time to plan a trip on your Ducati? Whether it’s long or short, don’t forget to have your cherished bike checked over before you set off: go to your local Ducati Service Centre to make sure that everything is in perfect working order.
Let’s just remind you which checks are essential before heading off.
First of all you must ensure that all the riding and safety devices are working correctly: above all the foot and hand controls.
Always check the correct maintenance and operation of the brake controls and the related brake lines.
You should have both front and rear brake pads checked, as well as the condition and pressure of the tyres. If the tread is wearing thin or the rubber has “hardened”, they might not guarantee the necessary road holding and traction. A note on tyre pressure: if the bike is fully loaded, the correct pressure is different from the usual level.
Always check the correct operation of lights and indicators. Correct adjustment of the rear-view mirrors is also important.
Make sure that the engine oil is at the optimum level, as well as the coolant (where present), checking the correct procedures in the maintenance manual.
Don’t overlook the final transmission system: to ensure the correct operation of the bike, the pinion, crown and chain mustn’t show too much wear. Also check the tension of the chain and its level of lubrication.
Then, luggage. Your bike is not a station wagon, so you must choose the essential items to take with you and ensure that the load is evenly distributed and stable. Touring Ducati Performance accessories enable optimal luggage transport and have been developed and tested so as not to compromise the dynamic performance of the bike.
Finally, clothing: there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. Choose clothes that are suitable for your destination, and remember that inadequate technical clothing not only reduces your passive safety but also your riding pleasure.
For carefree, completely safe travel, we suggest you contact your local Ducati Service Centre for a check-up and always refer to the maintenance manual.
At this point all you have to do is set off and enjoy riding your Ducati.
Have a good trip!
