During a conference held by none other than Fabio Taglioni before a
group of select journalists and industry experts back in 1989, the
secrets of the Desmodromic system - the undisputed hallmark of the Borgo
Panigale-based manufacturer's history since 1956 - were finally
unveiled.
Taglioni led the audience through a detailed explanation
of the technology, taking them on an exciting trip to the heart of the
Desmodromic system, and then went on to recount how a handful of
mechanics led by an engineer from the small town of Lugo managed to
accomplish such a sophisticated project.
Readers are taken on a ride back in time through the ups and downs of the endeavour, and the story
is made all the more captivating by a number of unusual anecdotes and
peculiar details, topped with Taglioni's interesting personal
considerations on his experience as Ducati's chief designer.
Ten
years after the death of Fabio Taglioni, his words and his account of
those days create a meaningful portrait of the last six decades of
Italian motorcycling history.
